How to use these Christmas flashcards
December is full of special words, and a holiday deck turns the excitement into reading and vocabulary practice. These cards work for early readers learning the words, for English learners meeting the traditions for the first time, and as a warm-up game for a class party. The definitions are short and written for elementary students. It is the same list as the CrossSheet Christmas crossword and close to the BingoSheet Christmas bingo, so one word list carries a whole week of activities.
- Keep the 18 words, delete a few, or add your own as "word - meaning" lines.
- Choose 4 or 6 cards per page for young readers; the words print extra large.
- Print double-sided with "flip on long edge", or fold-in-half on a single-sided printer.
- Cut on the dashed lines; card stock makes them sturdy enough to reuse every December.
Tips
- Hide the cards around the room and send students on a word hunt; they read the back aloud when they find one.
- Use them as a draw pile for charades or pictionary at a class party.
- Print the crossword and the cards from the same list for a quiet day before winter break.
