How to use these Thanksgiving flashcards
The week of Thanksgiving is a natural time for a themed vocabulary set: students hear these words everywhere, from the history of the 1621 harvest feast to the food on the table. The deck mixes history words (Pilgrims, Plymouth, Wampanoag) with the food and traditions of the day, all with short definitions written for elementary readers. It is the same list as the CrossSheet Thanksgiving crossword, so the cards can teach the words on Monday and the puzzle can review them on Wednesday.
- Keep the 18 words or add your own as "word - meaning" lines.
- Choose 6 or 8 cards per page, then print double-sided on the long edge.
- No duplex printer at home? Pick "fold in half": each card prints front and back side by side on one page.
- Cut on the dashed lines and use them in a center, a matching game or a holiday quiz.
Tips
- Play "flip and tell": a student flips a card and uses the word in a sentence about their own holiday.
- Print two decks and play memory: lay them face down and match each word to its meaning.
- For the kids' table, the same words make Thanksgiving bingo on BingoSheet.
